Anesthesiology, dermatology, surgery ranks swell with new faculty

Medical Center leadership is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff.

Ashley Nicole Emerson, M.D.

Dr. Ashley Nicole Emerson, recently dermatology chief resident at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, has Joined the Medical Center faculty as an instructor in dermatology.

After receiving her B.S. in biology and her B.A. in psychology from the University of Mississippi in 2007, Emerson earned her M.D. in 2013 at UMMC, where she had an internal medicine preliminary internship from 2013-14. She then had her dermatology residency from 2014-17 at LSU Health Sciences Center, New Orleans, where she was chief resident from 2016-17.

A member of the Jeanette D. Pullen Chapter of the Gold Humanism Honor Society, the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society, Emerson has authored or coauthored two articles in peer-reviewed professional publications and seven case presentations given at scientific meetings. She is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery.

 

Felicitas Lan-Feng Koller, M.D.

Dr. Felicitas Lan-Feng Koller, an assistant professor of surgery, director of dialysis access and associate program director of general surgery at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of surgery in the Department of Abdominal Transplant and Hepatobiliary Surgery.

After receiving her B.S. in biology and English cum laude from the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, in 2000, Koller earned her M.D. at the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, in 2005. She then had a general surgery internship from 2005-06, a general surgery residency from 2006-12, and a T-32 surgical oncology research fellowship from 2008-10 at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tennessee. She also had a multi-organ abdominal transplant fellowship from 2012-14 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital before joining the Northwestern faculty in 2014.

An active member of several professional organizations, including the Association for Academic Surgeons, the Association for Surgical Education and the American Society of Transplant Surgeons, Koller has authored or coauthored five articles in peer-reviewed professional publications and one book chapter. She has given six presentations at scientific meetings nationwide. Her research interests focus on patient, medical student and resident education.

 

Channing Carl Twyner, M.D.

Dr. Channing Carl Twyner, a recent pain medicine fellow at the University of Alabama Birmingham, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of anesthesiology.

After receiving his B.S. in biochemistry and molecular biology magna cum laude from Belmont University, Nashville, Tennessee, Twyner earned his M.D. at UMMC in 2012. He then had an internal medicine internship from 2012-13 and an anesthesiology residency from 2013-16 at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota, and a pain medicine fellowship at UAB from 2016-17.

An active member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the Society of Critical Care Anesthesiologists and the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, Twyner has given nine presentations nationally. He has authored or coauthored one article in a peer-reviewed professional publication and one book chapter. His research interests include the pharmacoepidemiology of opioids.
